Bottom-ranked DutchGroningen (0-4) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 67-63 loss to leader British Newcastle Eagles (3-0) in Newcastle on Tuesday evening. Strangely Groningen outrebounded Newcastle E. 48-30 including a 20-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American forward DeSean Allen-Eikens (200-2000, college: CSUN) who led his team to a victory scoring 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import Mike Okauru (191-1999, college: UNCW) helped adding 17 points. At the losing side Czech-Canadian center James Karnik (206-1998, college: Boston Coll.) responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 23 rebounds and 4 blocks and American guard Zach Harvey (198-2001, college: UCSB) scored 16 points. Four Groningen players scored in double figures. Newcastle Eagles have a solid series of three victories in a row. Newcastle E. maintains third place with 3-0 record behind leader Valmiera Glass, which they share with Bamberg and Voluntari. Loser Groningen still closes the standings with four games lost. They share the position with Bristol Flyers.
